How does my contribution impact University of Miami student-athletes and the program?

Through the funds raised from our membership program, we pay specific athletes to promote the Canes Connection and other sponsors.

What percentage of my contribution goes to student-athletes?

95% of every dollar goes directly to support student athletes in NIL opportunities and services. A 5% overhead expense is amongst the lowest in the country for a Power 5 collective.

How does Canes Connection know how to utilize the funds?

We have strategic ways to ensure we understand and can execute on the NIL needs of our student-athletes. Each contract we sign is uniquely based on the specific student-athlete. We’ve built a team with industry expertise that allows us to properly manage funds and maximize spending efficiency while ensuring we’re as competitive as any collective in the country.

NIL

What is NIL?

NIL stands for “Name, Image, Likeness” and it has been at the center of the debate about how to implement equitable parameters for allowing student-athletes to monetize their NIL for many years. In July 2021, Florida passed the Florida Intercollegiate Compensation and Rights law, which allows student-athletes to earn compensation for the use of their name, image, and likeness (NIL).

What are the NCAA Rules?

Permissible NIL opportunities must be consistent with the law of the state where the school is located and must avoid pay-for-play and improper inducements tied to choosing to attend a particular school.

What is the role of the Canes Connection?

The Canes Connection will serve as a central hub to facilitate, coordinate, and provide NIL opportunities to University of Miami student-athletes.

We will partner with student-athletes to help them navigate the financial and legal implications of the new Florida Law—providing them with one-stop-shop access to the business community and marketing opportunities.
